[Abstract]To investigate human immunity in vivo, we have created "humanized mice" -- mice reconstituted with human immunity. Furthermore, the creation of humanized mice for acute leukemia has enabled us to identify mechanisms for leukemia relapse and to develop novel therapeutic strategies targeting chemotherapy-resistant leukemia stem cells. New therapeutic strategies will be introduced.

[Abstract]Basophils represent only 0.5% of blood leukocytes, and their functional significance remained an enigma for a long time. Recent studies have identified previously-unappreciated roles for basophils in various immune responses, including allergy, protective immunity against parasites, and regulation of acquired immunity. In this lecture, emerging roles for basophils will be introduced.
